The Niagara Lightning are joined by the Junior Caribou from Quebec and Junior Harlequins from Ottawa in the 2008 RCSL Central division Junior League.
This season brings a genuine competition for the under 20 players in the region. The winner of this division will go forward to play in the Eastern Semi-final at the Atlantic champion home base July 5th.
This year the league will only offer a one round series, but it is expected that in 2009 this will expand to a home and home series. Unfortunately The Toronto area will not be entering a team this season, it is hoped this will change in 2009.
The schedule begins with them joining the Thunder in Montreal May 10th versus the Junior Caribou. These games will be played at the Concordia University on artificial turf. They meet the Junior Harlequins on Sunday June 15th in Brantford again preceeding the Thunder game.
Players participating in the RCSL Junior division will be considered for further selection in Rugby Canada's development teams in readiness for the World u20 competitions in 2009.
Head coach Gary MacDonald is looking forward to another year of exciting rugby and is optimistic at the teams ability to make it to the semi-final.
